The bittersweet farewell of resolutions without amendments

The most unwanted day, the last one, has arrived, but with good news. The delegates started the session with more self-confidence than the first day. The morning started with new resolutions for topic B, even sending some working papers to the chairs before the session. This helps a lot to conduct the debates, because there was more time missing than on other days. As with topic A, three working papers were presented to the chairs.

The working paper A, was sponsored by South Sudan, Russia, Iran, and China. They proposed the creation of a new international organization (IIONS), to provide rigid legal legislations, international Atomic Energy Agency inspections and investigation of any country that breaks the US-Iran nuclear agreement; the encouragement USA and signatures to restore Iran’s economic sanctions of USA; the cooperation between the General Assembly and the IAEA; the ratification and signature of Treaty of the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) and the JCPOA, by countries which didn’t did it yet; the defense of developed countries for undeveloped countries; and the 5% of nuclear weapons possession.

On the other hand, the working paper B was sponsored by India, Chile, Uzbekistan. What they proposed as resolutions were: the creation of a new committee based on the UN to ensure the global cooperation on nuclear disarmament; the installation of ICPOA with similar legislations from the original 2015 JCPOA applicable in all the world; totally nuclear disarmament; the reduction of general Iran’s economic sanctions; to increase economic trade between Iran and the Middle East; and totally nuclear disarmament and nuclear energy development. Some amendments were suggested to working paper A, but the lack of time didn’t accept any of them at all.

As well, another working paper C was presented, but denegated because it was empty. Finally, the working paper A won the debate. Apart from that, the committee got its official pictures and great awards. In the closing ceremony, between the heartwarming words and speeches of the general secretary, press, design and social media manager, logistics managers… thanking all the work done together to make this V edition of SYMUN possible, the chairs gave some prizes to some delegations. The prize for the best delegation to the delegation of South Sudan; the first honorable mention to the delegation of Chile; the second honorable mention to the delegation of China and verbal mentions to delegation of South Korea and Estonia.

This edition is and it will be unforgettable. Especially for the delegation of Argentina because of her unexpected proposal, done by one of her friends from the Historic Committee. All in the middle of the closing ceremony. DISEC has created a family, future delegations, ambassadors or even presidents, who knows? But what it’s really known, is that this experience has marked an end and a beginning for a lot of people. This edition has been amazing, but the next one is going to be better and more magical.
