After the opening ceremony, SYMUN 2022 officially starts with each committee’s workshop. In this 5th edition, the World Health Organisation will be discussing the topic “Health problems in Sub-Saharan Africa: HIV, Malaria and malnutrition”. The chairs in charge of this committee this year are Javier León, Paula Rossignoli and Ignacio María González, which explained the rules and general procedure during this workshop.
Although this year’s topic is certainly a serious matter of discussion, the delegates had the opportunity to soothe tensions and get to know each other thanks to an initial mock debate. The topic of discussion proposed by the chairs was whether Donald Trump’s hair is fake or real. As expected, the US featured the debate, having to face harsh interventions from countries like Chile, Brazil or Germany. It is worth mentioning France’s intervention, which stated: “Trump’s hair is a matter of our concern because if he is lying about it, what else could he be lying about?”
Afterwards, the US suggested opening a debate about false accusations, which brought sharp criticism to the country. However, China claimed that “presidents should be allowed to have their own private lives”. Moreover, Poland sent the following message to the US: “Not telling the truth or not saying anything at all is an offence to all the countries”.
Ultimately, the workshop was a success, as the chairs managed to get the delegates to understand how the debates work, as well as ensuring they had a good time and the opportunity to get to know each other.
